Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Who are you? π€
I am Hannah "Egret" Lemke of Egret Stilts. I am a Stilt Artist with an ethereal punk couture style.
What do you do? π
I generate one-of-a-kind otherworldly experiences that unite people through energized moments of awe and connection. I give audiences a unique shared experience that gets them talking, taking pictures, and having fun!
How did you get into stilt walking? π
When I was a kid, my grandfather built two pairs of wooden stilts-- one for me, and one for him to get up on and teach me. I got my professional pair of aluminum stilts at the end of 2023 and it's been up & up (& up) from there!
In my past lives, I worked Muggle jobs in schizophrenia research, rheumatology, and community mental healthcare. For me, seeing the effects of physical and mental health changes in my patients emphasized the importance of fun, celebration, silliness, audacity, creativity, and connection. When I assisted my patients in organizing their lives in a way that prioritized these aspects of life, they felt better. These experiences led me to embody the fun, celebratory, silly, audacious, creative, unifying leader that I am as a performing artist.
Where in the world are you based? π
I am based in central New Jersey (which totally exists), USA. Specifically, Brick 08724. Travel rates of +$20 for every 30 minutes of driving are calculated from this starting point.
I regularly travel throughout NJ, and have also travelled to PA, NY, DE, MD, and VA for gigs. I will consider travel to other states for the right events. Just ask!
