Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Who are you? π€
Hannah "Egret" Lemke of Egret Stilts. I am a Stilt Artist with an ethereal punk couture style.
What do you do? π
I create mesmerizing one-of-a-kind fantasy costumes that captivate onlookers and get them buzzing with curiosity. You can think of having Egret Stilts like having a giant living mobile interactive photo booth. Guests gawk at what they are seeing and it piques the interest of everyone around them, livening up the crowd and getting them hyped for what else is coming.
How did you get into stilt walking? π
When I was a kid, my grandfather built two pairs of wooden stilts-- one for me, and one for him to get up on and teach me. I got my professional pair of aluminum stilts at the end of 2023 and it's been up & up (& up) from there!
Where in the world are you based? π
I am based in central New Jersey (which totally exists), USA. I regularly travel throughout NJ, and have also travelled to PA, NY, DE, MD, and VA for gigs. I will consider travel to other states for the right events. Just ask!
What kinds of events do you do? π
Basically anything.
I love doing music videos and other film & commercial shoots, please contact me for those!
But really, I do all the things, like:
craft/trade shows (especially punk ones)
concerts
sweet 16s
quinceaΓ±eras
milestone birthdays (special offer: $100 for centenarian birthdays!)
dog birthdays
bachelorette parties (there is no better way to get tons of attention that to have a stilt walker follow you around for the night)
weddings (especially LGBTQAI+ ones)
restaurants (especially tasty ones)
clubs
bars
casinos
fairs
festivals (especially weird ones)
corporate events
conferences
fundraisers
galas
holiday functions
reunions
open houses
grand openings
educational events
fun runs
parades
Are you insured? β
Yes, I am an insured performer!
What are your rates? π³
Excellent question, thank you for asking. Rates will vary based on a number of factors including but not limited to costuming, travel, number of legs, and holiday demands.
You can expect to spend at least a couple hundred dollars ($225 & up).
Please keep in mind that 90% of the work of a performer is completed before the event-- the ongoing specialized training, speciality equipment, insurance, permits, marketing, contract negotiation, costume material purchase, costume design, costume creation, costume maintenance, hair styling, makeup artistry, travel, blocking the date & time of your event thus barring a performer from taking on other events that may potentially pay more, etc.
I work with you to customize the costumes and performance to fit your event theme and make for a truly unique and spectacular event. My designs are MINE-- my original works. It takes labor to generate original thoughts, and labor to bring them to life. If you are looking to pay money for unoriginal thoughts, you are in the wrong place.
How tall are you up there? π
Typically, I will be about 9-10 feet tall (5'6" + 3' stilts + 1-ish' headpiece). Stilt heights can be adjusted between 18 inches (1.5 feet) to 48 inches (4 feet).
What if my event space is lame & has low ceilings? π
If you really like my work but your event space is lame and has a low ceiling, I can adapt the look and perform as a ground character in some heels, sneakers, roller skates, etc. People still love the ground looks!
How can I book you for my event? π§Ύ
Please use the Contact page on this website, or honestly just send me a DM on Instagram @egretstilts I'm a millennial it's okay!
